Etsy Fee Calculator (2026): Fees, Payout and Profit per Order

On a typical US order, Etsy keeps 9.5% + $0.45 before any advertising fees — a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee and payment processing of 3% + $0.25. On a $25 sale with $4.50 shipping that adds up to $3.25, about 11% of what the buyer paid. The Etsy fee stack, line by line

Every sale pays at least three fees, and each one is charged on a different amount — which is why a single percentage guess is usually wrong.

Worked examples

$25 item, $4.50 shipping (US, no ad): listing $0.20 + transaction $1.92 + processing $1.14 = $3.25 in fees, a payout of $26.25 before your costs.

$100 item, free shipping (US, no ad): listing $0.20 + transaction $6.50 + processing $3.25 = $9.95 in fees, so you keep $90.05 of the $100.

The same $25 order, but it came from an Offsite Ad: add 15% of $29.50 = $4.43, for $7.68 total fees and a payout of $21.82. One ad-attributed order costs more in fees than two ordinary ones — worth knowing before you price.

Fees are fixed; getting found is not

You cannot negotiate the fee stack, but the other half of the profit equation — how many buyers find the listing at all — is where Etsy SEO tools pay for themselves. The three we review in most depth:

Frequently asked questions

How much does Etsy take from a $25 sale?

For a US seller charging $4.50 shipping on a $25 item, Etsy takes $3.25: a $0.20 listing fee, $1.92 in transaction fees (6.5% of the $29.50 the buyer paid for item plus shipping) and $1.14 in payment processing (3% + $0.25). That is about 11% of the order before your own product and shipping costs. With no shipping charge, a $25 sale costs $2.83 in fees.

Does Etsy's 6.5% transaction fee apply to shipping?

Yes. The transaction fee is charged on the total amount the buyer pays for the order: item price plus the shipping you charge plus any gift wrap charge. It is not charged on sales tax. This is the fee sellers most often underestimate, because charging $10 for shipping adds $0.65 of transaction fee on top of the fee on the item itself.

Why is my payout lower than the sale price minus 9.5%?

Three usual reasons. First, the 9.5% shorthand ($0.45 + 9.5%) only covers transaction and processing fees — the $0.20 listing fee sits outside it and is charged per item sold. Second, payment processing is calculated on the amount the buyer pays including any sales tax Etsy collected, while the payout you compare against excludes that tax. Third, if the buyer arrived through an Offsite Ad, an extra 12% or 15% fee applies to that order.

What is the Offsite Ads fee, and can I opt out?

If a buyer clicks an Etsy ad for your product on another site (Google, Facebook, Instagram and others) and buys from your shop within 30 days, Etsy charges 15% of that order on top of the normal fees. Shops that made more than $10,000 on Etsy in the past 365 days pay 12% instead, and the fee is capped at $100 per order. Participation is optional for shops under the $10,000 threshold and mandatory above it.

When do I pay the $0.20 listing fee?

The $0.20 is charged when you publish a listing, and again every four months when the listing renews. On a multi-quantity listing it is also charged again each time a unit sells, because the listing renews to stay active — which is why this calculator charges it once per item in the order.
